7 Steps to Creating an Effective Email Marketing Campaign

Are you hunting for the perfect email marketing strategy? Do you want to join a large group of businesses using email marketing campaigns?

In 2018, people sent and received an average of 293.6 billion emails each day. This statistic shows the vast benefits of email marketing.

Email marketing campaigns have great potential, but how can you create one?

Keep reading as we explain the seven steps to creating an email marketing campaign.

Step 1: What’s the Aim of the Campaign?

The first step is to find what you want your campaign to achieve. Do you want your campaign to improve sales, create traffic to your site, or create awareness of your brand?

Once you have decided your aim, this will guide you on who your target audience is. You will then have more of an understanding of how best to move through the following steps.

Step 2: Which Platform Is Best for You?

Some website providers will be able to offer options to create emailing campaigns internally. If this does not apply to you, then there are other platforms to use with which you can create your campaigns.

Going through external platforms has its advantages. Some will allow you such extra perks as applying auto-replies to your campaign. In lamens terms, they sustain the movement for you. They will also give you more insight into different email marketing tactics.

Each platform will offer you different perks at different prices. You will need to shop around and compare them to find the perfect one for you.

Step 3: Make Your Email List

With this step, you have a choice. You can either choose a company, find the perfect list and click the buy email list button. Or you can create your own from scratch. Building an email list from scratch is challenging but doable.

You need to create content aimed at your target audience. Doing this will increase the chance of reaching an interested audience, minimizing unsubscribes.

Look into how you can offer your audience incentives for subscribing. Does your company have specific products to provide to potential subscribers? If so, can you offer them for free or at a discounted price?

If you have access to it, use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Instagram forecasts over 1 Billion users worldwide by 2023. That’s a lot of potential subscribers.

Step 4: Create and Build Your Email Marketing Campaign

Here’s where we create the actual content for your email marketing campaign. You can split it like you would most things; Header, Body, and Footer.

You will have information such as the sender’s name (Person, not a business. Makes it more personal) and the email subject in the Header. This information is what shows up in the recipient’s email. Make this catchy; you want them to open the email.

The Body is where you inform the recipient of the information you wish to get across. Keep this section short and to the point. Nobody likes to receive emails full of information when a few sentences with a great hook are all you need.

The information added to the Footer section is tiny. Things such as contact details, social media links, Etc. You can use this section to spread your name. It also allows your audience to look further into what your company has to offer.

Step 5: Auto Respond

As mentioned in step 2, some platforms will give you the option to auto-respond. Auto-respond is a very beneficial program for any email marketing campaign.

Let us say your email list is growing with new subscribers joining each day; use auto-respond. The program will go through each new subscriber and reply to them for you. Through using this, it allows you to focus your attention on other marketing tactics.

Auto-respond has many uses, not only for new subscribers. If you’re a B2B company, you can create an auto-response for your customers. The auto-response can request feedback after the customer receives a purchase. Or you could send out an auto-response containing links to your new blog each time you post one on your website.

Step 6: Enable the Tracking Function

The tracking function is another crucial program to use. The data gathered can be used to decide if your campaign had the correct impact or if it needs changing.

The program’s basic premise is with each email sent. You can see how many people open the email. It not only allows us to see who opened it, but it also shows who clicked on the links provided.

This information tells us which part of the campaign needs adjusting. If people aren’t opening the email, you know to change the email subject from step 4.

Step 7: Send Out Your Email

You have completed the perfect email marketing campaign. All that’s left is to send it out. Hopefully, by now, your email list is getting pretty significant. Now you can send this campaign to many people, fulfilling the goal of step one.

If this is your first email campaign, then try not to feel down if you don’t get the outcome you wish. A small bump in progression should be seen as a learning curve. By educating yourself from failure is a sure key to future success.

Your Email Campaign Is Now Complete

Now you know how to create an email marketing campaign. Your aim from step one should be one step closer to becoming a reality.
